Time to make your move,
I’ll be Queen, and you my Knight,
Step up and check, mate.

I thought I’d have a little more fun with my favorites things… dancers, black, white & red, and haiku. Previously, I did an illustration that was somewhat similar, and I thought it was cool to surround the dancers with something unusual, like the bullseye, so… I went with a chess board tonight.
I actually looked up how many squares are on a real game board, and apparently it’s 64. I tried to go with that at first, but the squares were too small to reveal some parts of the man’s body. It still kind of works though, because we’re zooming in on the dancers who are in the middle of the game. If I had the patience I would change the perspective so that the board looks more like a floor, but that’s another project for another day.
I did a little word play with the “check, mate” as I was afraid that the use of “checkmate” in my haiku might allude to the fact that the queen was trying to put out a hit on the King. Ha! I don’t know… that’s what happens when I do these things after midnight. No… we’re not assassinating Kings here tonight.
Anyway, that’s about all for now. It’s time to wind down.
Thank you so much for reading! I hope you enjoyed… and I will see you again soon.
Until then,
Peace & Love!

As a chess enthusiast, I definitely like this one. And great word play🙂 Yes, we’re zooming in on the dance so it’s okay there are not 64 squares🏁

I do like that quote. However, in chess his wisdom should be reserved for the masters. For novices like myself, “When you see a good move…” TAKE IT! 😄

That’s funny. I haven’t played since I was a teen so I just saw it as life advice perhaps. Well played, hahaha. I thought last night it would be fun to relearn the game but I’m not sure my brain can take any more on at this juncture. 😂😂
