It’s National Strawberry Day here in the States! I accidentally stumbled on this fact last night, so I searched the garden high and low this morning for a celebratory fruit. And here we have it… one beautiful RED strawberry, ripening on the vine.

I probably don’t eat strawberries as often as I should—or could. But since I’m gearing up for my “Healthy Lifestyle, Healthy New Me” launch in March, it’s the perfect time to pay tribute to these sweet (and sometimes sour) babies.

Strawberries are a delicious, healthy replacement for the processed sugar that I love so much, so I’ll be seeing more of them soon! Besides being a great source of fiber and vitamin C, strawberries offer many additional benefits. Here are a few that I found.

  1. Beautiful! Can I ask about your health plans in March? I’m going to do something as well and it will involve cutting out sugar… leaning towards Whole30 but am a bit intimidated by the idea of it. Thank you!! ♥️

    1. Hi Collette! Well, the idea originally came about because of the 1/2 marathon I am running (walking) in on March 8th—which is also my 4th year sobriety birthday. So… the training for that has been bad. Long story! Anyway… I am going to slowly change my eating habits and activity level. Last night I decided on 160 lbs by 60… which is Oct. 2021. I’m going to (hopefully) blog about the subtle changes over time… until I finally hit my mark. I don’t have details yet, just ideas… but I’ll blog about it all. I would love to hear what you have in mind!

    2. That’s to weigh 160 by then, not lose that much! I am about 50 pounds over my ‘high side’ ideal weight, but tall with fairly big bones (sorry but explaining my size seems natural to me). So, cutting out (or down) sugar, maybe red meat.. but mainly processed foods and then of course walking more and I started working out with a trainer at the gym.


    1. I hadn’t splurged on teriyaki for awhile–and there’s a place right next to Safeway, walking distance from my apartment…very yummy 🙂
