“The art of simplicity is a puzzle of complexity”
Douglas Horton
I’m sure the meaning behind Horton’s quote was a bit more profound than the way I’m interpreting it – but it’s perfect nonetheless. Simplicity is hard!
Basically, for many of us I would imagine, simplicity means change. It’s like trying to eat healthy if you never really have. When you go years and years (or decades and decades), living how you’ve always lived – it’s hard to live differently.
Daily habits are so engrained that they are literally done unconsciously – without a thought. So, mindfulness is another component in my Less is More adventure. You have to pay attention!
Anyway, I’ve been enjoying myself. I wanted to wait until I could show you, but my “old magazine” upcycling project is actually… the construction of paper beads.
I have about 25 paper beads done so far, and I’m currently playing around with finishes. And trying to figure out what I’ll do with thousands of beads. Haha!
One page of a magazine makes about 5-6 beads, and I’ve got several piles of old magazines, so if I stick with this hobby someone may discover my body one day… buried in a pile of paper beads!
I’ll share a picture one day (when the beads are ready for the camera), but in the meantime I thought I’d share a YouTube video that shows you how to make paper beads (CLICK HERE).
On another note, I’ve been searching around for illustration inspiration, and today I decided on these minimalistic flowers. I love the simplicity of the image, and I used red because we’re so close to Christmas.
That’s pretty much all for now.
Until next time, thanks for reading/viewing. I hope you enjoyed!
Peace & Love. -Janet
