I’ve been working on this image for a while now, and I decided that it was time to call it a day on it. There’s so much more that I could do with it, but – par for the course – I got a little bored.
It started out as an idea to do a very intricate (imitation) stained glass art piece. I mean, basically, the stained glass look is outlines filled with color, so it shouldn’t be that hard, right?
But, the challenge lies in figuring out what details to eliminate so that you’re not overwhelmed with a million lines and then it looks like a regular old illustration instead.
In that sense, I failed on the idea, but I’m really happy with the result, mainly because I spent some time on it and tried to increase my own skillset while I was working on it.
And I think it’s fun and carefree – something that is often missing when you head out in the heat we are having and come face to face with the irritable population that lies outside of my home (my oasis). But that’s another story, another day.
Anyway, don’t ask me why Rockabilly came to my mind – but it did. So I found several different photographs and used them as my guides for the set and the characters.
So, since I’ve started this piece, the song Rock This Town by the Stray Cats has refused to leave my head. I swear! What a nightmare. That’s probably why I decided to move on… to give my brain a rest. HaHa! Next time I’ll pick a genre that’s more up my alley (and I don’t mean where the stray cat’s strut, either).
