“You got this girl,” Coco squealed. “Hit the send button!”
I was paralyzed. For the first time I could remember, the voice in my head was not whispering, it was screaming… “You’re not ready for this!”
Coco had known me long enough to know what I was thinking. She reached across the table and grabbed the mouse from my icy fingers. CLICK. And that was that.
“You gotta be brave Sugar,” she said, brushing my tousled hair back out of my eyes.
Coco was like that. She wasn’t afraid of anything. This alter ego thing was all her idea. She went on for weeks about Beyoncé, and how Beyoncé had created this alter ego named Sasha Fierce. It was Sasha who performed on stage, not Beyoncé, because Beyoncé was actually quiet and reserved. Not this Sasha girl though. She was wild!
Then Coco got turned on to this website called Miracle Spells that could help you create your own alter ego – all you had to do was fill out a form. And pay fifty dollars.
Coco knew I’d be out as soon as she told me about the fifty dollars, so she offered to pay for it if I would just sit down and answer the questions. It was a grueling process. There were fifty questions, and I had a hard time answering all of them. Except for two.
1. Can you briefly describe your alter ego?
Tall, beautiful, fun, adventurous, brave, and uninhibited.
2. What is her name?
Sequoia Storm.
There was no doubt in my mind that the whole thing was a hoax, a scam, but once my alter ego had a name, something inside of me shifted. Then the voice in my head whispered… “what if it’s real?” That freaked me out.
That’s when Coco squealed, I froze up, the voice in my head screamed “you’re not ready for this”… and then Coco hit the SEND button. And that was that. Ready or not, my order had been submitted.
A note from me
It went against my nature to post a story without a cover image, even though that was my original goal. To top it off – the only thought I had when creating the illustration was that I wanted a woman with tousled hair. Weird. But, after much deliberation, I decided that maybe… just maybe… the girl in the illustration is Sequoia Storm. Even though we haven’t met her yet.
I hope you enjoyed Part ONE!
