The Window

There’s a world out there. Open a window, and it’s there.

ROBIN WILLIAMS

One of the things I love about blogging is the places it takes our minds. I found this Robin Williams quote today while looking to see what fun things people had said about windows.

I knew it was right the minute I saw it, because it seems so appropriate today with all of the shut downs and stay at home orders. There’s still a world out there beyond our little abodes, but you have to look a little harder to see it.

I did do some shopping today with my mom, and I was kind of surprised at the lack of hustle and bustle that you usually see on our streets before Christmas. And I know I have trouble sticking with a plan, but if I don’t get out there and start walking and doing some strength training after the holidays I think I might develop a bad case of sarcopenia (muscle loss from aging).

Maybe you’re already familiar with that word (sarcopenia), but I just learned about it the other day as one of the men in my class is writing his paper on it. It does have to do with aging, but you can help keep it at bay with strength training. I know my muscles aren’t what they used to be and I’m anxious to get back into my New Lifestyle, New Me frame of mind and get busy with it.

Anyway, it appears that this has been an experimental week for me. I had fun doing this image today, after my studies and shopping were done, and I like the comic book look it has. I think that if this woman wants to see the world outside of her window… she might need to get her head out of her hat. Ha-Ha!

And she’s #2 to be added to my resurrected series called Everything Red. This one for sure needs some line work, but I’m more focused on feeling out ideas right now—rather than worrying about perfection. What I’m thinking I might do is a few images like this that are actual portraits of people. We’ll see.

I’m going to keep up with stained glass images but the one that I want to do next is VERY intricate, so I need time and patience and these two things are running a little low at the moment. Soon though!

That’s about it I think. Thanks for reading… I hope you found something enjoyable here!

See you all soon,
Janet

  1. Oh yeah, I think many people’s worlds have effectively shrunk due to the pandemic, but I also think that’s taught us to realise what’s important in our lives and what’s not. Thanks so much for this piece!

  2. Hi Janet – I like your series and it did fit the quote – and smiling to imagine that “if this woman wants to see the world outside of her windowโ€ฆ she might need to get her head out of her hat. ” that was funny and true –
and the striped background was cool too

    1. Well I’m probably right there with you. I thought I was sedentary before COVID. Now my lack of activity makes my past sedentary lifestyle look active!! Did you ever get rid of your treadmill? I wish I lived close I would have come and borrowed it.

    2. You’d be more than welcome to “Mercy”, my treadmill…I didn’t get rid of it, but maybe someone will want it after the holidays. It’s currently mostly hidden by boxes of surplus food/baking items! There’s something just wrong in that picture–a treadmill loaded with choc chips, etc etc ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. I had forgotten how great a blog you produce. The image firstly drew me, then the Robin Williams quote – I skim read through the blog and you had me hooked – off to look at the everything Red series – and that to me is what blogging is a wander through a multitude of creative disciplines. For the moment my work and Covid means I dip in and out of blogging – but I am always inspired by this community. Enjoy a peaceful and healthy holiday period. Scott

    1. Thank you Scott, I appreciate your thoughtful comment! It’s so nice to hear encouraging words. I took a break for a bit myself and just getting back in the swing. Happy holidays to you as well!

    2. I think we all dip in and out – in the early days I would apologise for my absence (as if I had some sort of duty to post) but I think you can call yourself a blogger when you are comfortable with the process. I am amazed how many people I have followed from the beginning are still connected. It is truly refreshing to return and catch up with each other. We all lead busy lives and get distracted by them – blogging however is for me very uplifting. ๐Ÿ™‚

    3. I know! I would apologize too… as if my absence was sorely missed haha. I mean that in a fun way though. Yes, just like old friends you can pick up right where you left off.
