Masquerade

I have a collection,

Of masks that I wear.

Some say “I’m OK,”

Others show that I care.

There’s a smart looking one,

That I wear when I work,

And one that looks angry,

When someone’s a jerk.

A seductress for fun,

And a clown face for play,

And you just never know,

Which I’m wearing today.

I thought this featured image was perfect for the prompt. It’s kind of colorful and fun, but a little eerie—kind of like how I feel about clowns. It’s another one in the collection that was inspired by a Pinterest find, with my own twist on it.

The poem is an exaggeration of how I feel at times, when I start thinking that I’m not being authentic. What I’ve found over time is that much of that has to do with moods. My moods rise and set like the sun and the moon, and change like the seasons, so no one—including myself—is quite sure what the day will bring, or what is coming next.

Anyway, I appreciate the fact that you took a minute to read my poetry, so thank you for that. I hope you found something enjoyable here!

  1. You know I’m a FAN–and I so get you, about the moods and masks. It would be SO helpful if, like the weather forecast, there was and “app” that forecasted my moods–surely the world would be a nicer place for everyone 🙂 I love your art, too–you’re right, this one has a bit of “eerie” in it. love you muchly, Z ❤

  2. L❤️VE this poem and artwork is perfect illustration for it. I’ve never enjoyed clown art as much as yours 😉😆

Your poem is exactly how I feel if I’m not in alignment with my authentic self.

What I enjoyed the most is how our moods do indeed ebb and flow in relation to the world around us and it’s not only normal and ok, it shows the diversity and depth of the many layers in all of us

    Nicely done❣️ 😘🤗

    1. Thanks Teri! And it’s nice to hear from you. I agree that it’s normal. My moods also dictate whether I’ll write, or do art, or sew… I used to think I needed to find my “thing,” but now I realize things move in seasons and we just change. Long story lol. Hope you are doing well Teri!

    2. I’m well thanks and I love how you bounce around to different forms of creative expression. A true artist❣️ Not pegging yourself to one thing. In fact, you can’t 😉

      Be well 😄🤗

  3. I don’t know about you but I’m sick of wearing masks! Haha. Sorry had to go there. I too am a wearer of many masks to hide moods deemed (by myself) inappropriate for the setting. At my core, I just want everyone to get along and be nice to each other. Take care of yourself and be well! 💕
