Well, the letter ‘F’ sure was fun! My original idea was dancing flamingos… so how I ended up here I have no clue. But who cares?! I love all things dance, so either way it was a win-win.
I’m trying to work my way into a focus on “less-than-lifelike.” One of my biggest challenges has to do with creating weird mixes of something I’m trying to make look real and a looney tunes cartoon.
I do the same thing when I write on paper. I start my to-do lists in perfect print block lettering – all nice and smooth – and by the time I get to item 4 I’m scrolling cursive like a madwoman. Let’s get that sh*$ done!
Anyway, I started with two simple reference images for this (so it didn’t take too much effort), and then I started working on the gaps. I was going for a stained glass look minus the thick black outlines.
I think the lack of outlines and the various disconnected body parts add to the concept of movement… like they’re really flowing out there. Or, finding their inner flamenco I should say.
My last thought yesterday was to do something non-human today, but when that didn’t work out I figured I’d at least give this dancer a partner.
Tonight, I think that finding my inner flamenco is about letting go. I’ve been carrying around some worries and today I decided that I needed to lighten up and trust the process. Or trust God. Same thing.
That being said, I do feel lighter this evening. ‘F’ was fantastic, I found my flamenco, and I look forward to gathering my ‘G’ words.
Until next time,
Peace & Love.
