Sunflower Sunday

When I was a graphic design major (very briefly), my biggest takeaway was that creativity is not really taught. As far as skills, the best advice I received was actually a recommendation, and that was to “create something new every day.” I totally get it. You just have to keep at it.

Honestly, I’ve been in a real slump. Ever since I talked about wanting to love my creations, and then not loving them… I’ve been racking my brain trying to figure out why I even do them at all.

I had to question if it’s for my own enjoyment, because if it weren’t for sharing them here – on the blog – or occasionally on Insta and Facebook, I’m not sure I’d do them at all. What purpose would they serve if they were only for me? And would I even bother? Maybe. Maybe not.

I’ve considered writing instead, but when I close my eyes to imagine story plots… I hit a wall. A thick, gray, cold, wall. It’s like my imagination went on holiday. And left me behind!

Don’t get me wrong here. I’m not miserable or anything. I’m actually doing quite well in life, in general, with the exception of producing ‘products’ that strike me as being worthy of love – or that serve an actual purpose.

I thought I’d go back to the beginning. To the basics. I’d like to take that professor’s advice and create something new every day. Not for love or purpose, but for the simple freedom of creating absolutely anything.

So, you’ll be seeing things I’ve never done before or don’t normally do (hopefully). Good or bad, happy or sad, as long as they’re something new… they’re an accomplishment (dopamine rush!). I guess that means no upcycles or revamps for a while. For now.

So, Day 1 is done, and I’ve created something new… a wild sunflower. I like it. It’s unique, colorful, and it gives off a gentle glow of positivity.

That’s about all for now! Thanks for looking/reading… I hope you enjoyed!

The Sunflower

Sunflowers have been known to symbolize joy, positivity, resilience, strength and hope, and they also represent a connection to the sun and its life-giving energy. In some cultures, they are believed to bring good luck, prosperity, and positive opportunities.

May your week be filled with all of that… and more!

This really resonates with me – I’m having to teach myself to value the act of creating as an accomplishment, and not just the end product. Thanks for sharing!
