The Window Seat

“Bless those who see life through a different window. And those who understand their view.”

I had every intention of taking my time and making more of an effort to create high quality illustrations, but I’ve started at least 4 or 5 that I’ve had to set aside because it’s just not in my genes to do so.

My visions and ideas are terribly grandiose at times, and I just can’t measure up. My imagination far surpasses my skill level. It’s kind of like hoping to build a house when you’ve just learned how to use a hammer. That’s an exaggeration, but it gets my point across.

Anyway, I spent a lot less time on this line art project and I’m satisfied with it. The window frames actually came from an old illustration, so it’s an upcycle of sorts. It’s original use is shown HERE if you’re interested.

Honestly, I’ve been reading another book that was recommended and what it’s leading me to believe is that I haven’t really entered adulthood yet. That’s a scary thought when you’re in your 60s. Haha!

But, I think this book may actually help me cross that threshold… and when I thought about that I got really excited… ran to the computer… and went to work on an illustration of a woman crossing a threshold. It’s on pause. Didn’t like it at all.

And this wasn’t intentional, but I think it’s funny that this woman is at the window. A Freudian slip, perhaps? It made me laugh because it’s possible that she’s me! I think she’s out there, worried about crossing that threshold, so she’s decided to hang out near the window instead.

Maybe she wants to look inside for awhile and see what this ‘adulthood’ looks like before she commits to entering. Maybe I just need to finish the book! It’s kind of a slow burn but it is really interesting!

So, I’ll leave it at that for now. It’s been a long day, and I’m happy that I was able to finish something. Thank you so much for viewing or reading, I hope you enjoyed!

-Janet

PS: The book I’m reading is Falling Upward: A Spirituality for the Two Halves of Life, by Richard Rohr (thank you Elizabeth!)

I agree with Dracul (above). There’s something very graceful and classy about the woman in the window. Pretty sophisticated for someone who doesn’t feel like they’ve grown-up yet, Janet. ;>)
