The Faces of Bea

I could tell you a thing or two about Bea, but it wouldn’t be easy. That woman was entirely unpredictable. And complicated.

She was remarkably intelligent, but incredibly naive. Sweet as a sugar plum, yet bitter to the taste. As cold as ice, and fiery enough to melt a heart. You never knew which Bea you might get, which made her scary as hell.

Floyd was the only man around who was willing to take the risk. The other men cowered when they saw her coming.

It’s not that she was notorious for being mean, it’s that she was sweet enough to lure you in, like honey to a bee… but, inevitably, you would get stung.

That’s the story everyone tells anyway, and therein lies the problem.

The thing about the story of Bea is that it’s always been told by other people… people who would never admit what it was that they might have done to make Bea turn on them like she did.

And once those first few stories were unleashed, and they rolled from person to person, the facts would be changed, or new details added, and before long… any shred of the truth that possibly even existed was erased.

The best liar wins?

Only two people knew about the things that Bea kept private, things that none of those gossipmongers were privy to. I’m one of those people, and I’m here to set the record straight, once and for all.

So, The Story of Bea is the first of my “story beginnings” that might never be finished – or even continued. Yes, I realize this happens a lot (haha), but never this intentionally.

The idea was talked about in my last post. Eventually, what I hope to have are pages full of story beginnings, so I’ll always have them at my fingertips, to continue with, or scratch and redo. We’ll see what happens.

Still, I had trouble getting the beginning off of the ground because I was already into the illustration and the two were conflicting. That woman in my image looks like she couldn’t hurt a fly! She’s no femme fatale, she’s Barbie reincarnate!

On the other hand, I loved doing the illustration. I saw a pop art poster that inspired my idea. What I love about it is the fact that there are shapes that appear to want to contain the characters, but the characters won’t have it.

Those characters (the many faces of Bea) are breaking all the rules and busting right out of those boundaries (nobody puts Baby in a corner). Hmm.. maybe Bea really is rebellious, complicated, and unpredictable. Maybe one day we’ll find out.

I suppose that’s all for tonight!

Thanks for reading or looking, I hope you enjoyed something here!

You don’t really need a story for this one, the comic strip style art speaks for itself. I love it.
