M is for Music

M was an easy letter. Normally I look around a bit before I decide on the word, but what better M word is there than Music?

Music expresses feelings and tells stories. I remember when I was into my drinking / love addiction roller coaster days… I’d play sad music… and I was always sad.

Finally, a man that I was seeing (for a minute) told me I should listen to happier songs. Of course, that was after I had burst into tears in the middle of… whatever it was we were doing at the time.

I realized that the sadness that I felt when listening to music was almost too INTENSE. On the upside, happy music has the same effect. It’s like music is magical, and it has the power to make us feel certain ways.

That being said, I try to be careful about what I listen to now. Like when I’m power walking (haha!) I fast forward whenever those sad songs come on (think Lewis Capaldi, for example).

When I think of music I also think of dance, because I think that dancing helps us connect to the sound. It’s like we’re no longer simply listening to the music, we’re actually a part of it.

I wasn’t sure where I’d go with my illustration, But once I found the beautiful, wavy ‘M’ I knew that dancers were a must. I mean, the M seems to be dancing on it’s own!

So, I looked around and found some dancers that I’ve made in the past – although one looks like she’s doing a weird fashion pose. She reminds me of Madonna’s old song Vogue… “Strike a pose.”

Anyway, the ‘poser’ also happened to be wearing a shirt made out of ‘lines’ so I edited the other girls to match. I really fell in love with the effect because, to me, it expresses movement.

I didn’t want to spend a lot of time on their faces, hence the lack of facial features. I’ve been thinking about adding polls to my posts, and this would have been perfect because I have to wonder what you prefer…

Facial features or no facial features.

My idea was that their faces were not important and that’s not really what you should be looking at. But, then I have to wonder if it IS what you focus in on because you’re left wondering… “why in the heck don’t those ladies have facial features?”

If I ever figure out the polls thing I think I’ll add those types of questions.

So… I think that’s all for now. There’s probably so much more I could say about music, but I’ll leave it with a quote…

“Writing about music is like dancing about architecture.” -Elvis Costello (and others)

I think that sums it up. Thanks for reading/viewing… I hope you enjoyed something here!
