I haven’t been in the mood for writing much, but I’ve had all kinds of story ideas. Weird. Anyway, we’re on the letter G, and the word I was attracted to for this letter was Groovy.
If I were to write a story based on this word (and letter), I’d call it “Grace and the Groovy Goggles.” I’m thinking of magic goggles that make everything around you groovy. Haha! Unpredictable, eh? It would be a fun story!
I think I need to keep notes of these ideas so that when I’m ready to write… I’ll have a database full of wild inspirations.
So, I checked out the history of the word Groovy. I’ll make a disclaimer upfront though… for this and any other word I might talk about… most of this info comes up in AI search results on Google.
I have no intention of plagiarizing the artificial chap, or those sites that he gets his info from. That being said, here’s what I found out…
“Groovy” originated in the 1920s and referred to the groove of music as well as the physical groove in a (vinyl) record. DJs and musicians used terms like ‘hot grooves’, or ‘cool grooves,’ and the word groovy came to describe music that was in the groove or swinging.
Then the 60s came along and the hippie counterculture decided to use the word another way. Groovy came to mean ‘cool’ or ‘stylish’ and eventually even ‘trendy’.
In 1966, Simon and Garfunkel released the popular song called… “Feeling Groovy” and – along with their song – the word Groovy became forever associated with the hippie counterculture era of the 60s.
There you have it. I suppose that’s why daisies came to my mind when I was creating the illustration – what with flower power and all.
Last night I thought that the faint (washable) tattoo on her forehead should have been a peace sign rather than a daisy, but my brain was already onto the letter H… and that was all she wrote. I was over it.
I’m not sure that pink hair was popular in the 60s, but my girl is actually a depiction of a modern day hippie – a rebel without a cause (which might actually describe some younger people I know, but that’s another story).
As you can see, she looks slightly unhappy – or serious – but that’s because her Groovy Goggles haven’t kicked in yet. Give it time!
I suppose that’s all for now. Thanks for reading or viewing – I hope you enjoyed something here and that you’re feeling groovy….
Until next time,
Peace & Love.
