A Boomer Tale.

-DeeDee and the Speeding Ticket Verbal Warning-
Listen honey. If anyone tries to tell you that you can’t be sexy in your sixties… tell them to go… well… you know.
I’m 64 now, and you know what? I just sweet talked my way out of a speeding ticket. That’s right baby. DeeDee’s still got it.
It takes a lot of work, don’t get me wrong, but all good things require effort. Beauty is no exception.
That’s why I bought the salon. Suzanna and Gladys – two of my closest friends – are my best customers. All three of us girls would be down there every week, or every other week… getting washed, cut, dyed, blown, or waxed… and one day it just hit me. We were bankrolling the joint.
“DeeDee,” I said to myself, “you need to buy this place and bring some of that money home to your family.”
It’s been uphill ever since. I loved running that salon, I really did, but I had a little health scare a few years back and I decided that it was time. My son Philip manages it now, and the ladies just love him.
Life has never been better, and I’ve never looked back.
Gladys called earlier and asked if I could meet her over at Suzanna’s place. I’m not sure what it’s about, but it sounded urgent. That’s why I was speeding by the way. When my girls need me, I answer the call.
Isn’t that what friends are for?
TO BE CONTINUED
I need to chime in tonight. I’m feeling a little writer’s issue coming on… and I needed to talk about it.
I’m trying to keep each tale short, and I want each short segment to end gracefully… but I fear the closing statements are becoming redundant.
I’m also not sure that the Boomer theme is coming through. I think I try to make the characters too animated, and it takes away from their purpose. I’m going to work on those two things… hopefully before I come back with the fourth part.
Other than that, I’m enjoying the illustrations. This woman’s smile was what made me think of the speeding ticket episode… so I found a car and put her down in it. That’s been fun, and I’m looking forward to what’s next.
I think that’s all for now. Life is good.
Thanks for reading, I hope you are enjoying the story!!
