…in the window

“My head was once a filing cabinet. Now it’s a flurry of papers, floating on a draft.” -A.J. Finn, The Woman in the Window

I started this woman some time ago and just came back to her after I got tired of the newer things I’ve been working on. I keep doing that… losing interest in things.

When I found the quote from The Woman in the Window, I had to laugh. I’ve never seen the movie, or read the book, so I don’t really know the context – but that statement seems to resemble what’s in my head these days… a disorganized jumble of words and images.

We started Christmas shopping way too early this year, so my head has been absorbed with gift ideas, and what I can actually afford.

I suppose it’s a lot like imagining a masterpiece when you sit down to do an illustration – you envision a pair of Louis Vuitton shoes, but what you end up with is more like a cozy pair of socks from Old Navy.

Ha-Ha! Hey, don’t knock it. I just bought a few pairs of those socks and they’re very cozy indeed! And incredibly warm.

Anyway, I wasn’t sure where my girl in the window was headed, but this afternoon I tried to incorporate a little stained glass look into it because that’s something I want to do again soon – faux stained glass images.

When I first worked on this one, I had a cabinet planned for where she’s sitting, but when I looked at the unfinished illustration, it looked a little like she was kind of floating… like from an ‘imaginary’ window.

I’ve altered it a bit, so that ‘floating look’ might not come through now, but what I’m loving is that she looks how I feel… happy and content, but a little preoccupied.

Of course, I added a paint look after the fact and it’s slightly messy due to the amount of black lines I had, but I think it adds to the “disheveled thoughts” theme. I’m happy with it.

I guess that’s all for now. I’m still pondering what’s next on the agenda. With holidays coming up… and a new year right around the corner… I’m anxious to see what exciting things are waiting ahead.

Thanks for looking or reading. I hope you enjoyed!
