A Novelette.
Or a short story, depending on who you ask.
I’ve decided to go long and attempt to write a fiction “Novelette in November” for National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). This is for fun, so no pressure. Ha-ha! I’ll apologize in advance if I fade to black half way through the story… with no explanation.
I googled the various types of fiction, and while a short story ranges from 1,500 to 7,500 words, a novelette is anywhere from 7,000 to 20,000. That 500 word gap between 7,000 and 7,500 is what prompted me to shoot for a novelette.
With 30 days in November, I can hit 7,500 words easily if I write 250 per day. That ‘sounds’ like a piece of cake – let’s hope I’m not biting off more than I can chew!
I was going to write a teaser, but I’ve yet to start the first chapter so that proved to be difficult. Ha! I spent a little time illustrating the cover instead (above), but don’t be fooled… you can’t judge a book by it’s cover! I’m setting my sights on finishing this one and I hope to make you laugh (and maybe cry a little) in the process.
Wish me luck! I’ll be back very soon for the beginning!
Much love,
Janet
One Quick Note: I forgot to mention… I created the fountain and the peacock fencing in Adobe Illustrator and then tried out the new AI generator for the background. I think it did a great job! It matched my color scheme well, and since it was vector I was able to resize it with ease! Happy Halloween, by the way!
