When being “tied to your phone” meant something literal.
I thought I’d try something fun but meaningful this time around. I’m still on my quest to create illustrations that talk about our excessive use of technology (and other dangers), but I wanted to come in somewhere between my green monster and the painter.
At first the message was going to be something like “are we spending too much time on our phones?”… but I kept thinking about line art (which I don’t think this is exactly) and a desire that I had to make a bunch of lines or cords wrapped around a person (a little sadistic maybe??).
So… I ended up with a more humorous illustration depicting what it’s like to be tied (or chained) to your phone. Or what it was like back in the day anyway. Oh, many of us are still chained to them, but it’s a psychological addiction now, rather than a cord that’s trying to strangle us.
Now that I think about it, I should have added some padlocks as it looks like it might be too easy for this person to escape. Ha-ha! I was also excited to use a rotary phone so that the wires actually made sense. Anyway, it was fun to do something that was easy and lighthearted.
I’m almost getting an urge to write again – but I’m not quite there yet. I’m kind of getting into upcycling old things so I tore apart my old bed and made room for a dresser that I’ll be refurbishing. The bed had a LOT of wood slats underneath and I’m trying to think of something cool to make out of those as well. How fun! Throw out ideas if you think of anything.
I think that’s about all for now. I’ve been watching a lot of documentaries these days so my brain is ready to explode… but I’ll be back soon to share anything exciting I’ve learned!
Until then…
Peace & Love!!
