“The square root of 725,904 is 852.”
“That is correct,” Naya’s mother beamed. “It is no surprise that you gain intelligence with each new day. It is your destiny.”
Naya lifted her right hand to her chin and then moved it downward, toward her mother; a gesture meaning “thank you,” which she had recently learned in her sign language studies.
Her mother followed her to the door and then closed it behind her. Shima’s smile diminished, and a look of worry filled her eyes. Naya was learning so much these days, and it was only a matter of time before her daughter would question everything – including her destiny.
Shima’s mind drifted to her youth, back to when she first came to know her own fate – that the life she would live was not of her choosing. A small tear trickled down, and she wiped it away quickly.
Shortly before her sixteenth birthday, Naya returned home with a high level of energy. Normally she was drained after her studies, and she would be useless until she had time to recharge, but on this particular day she was literally bouncing off of the walls.
Shima knew that something had gone wrong, so she sat Naya down to inquire about her day.
“Mother!” Naya said eagerly. “I would like to be in love!”
Shima knew that it was time. She would have to tell Naya everything.
“I’m sorry Naya, but this cannot happen,” she said. “That is not how we are programmed.”
“You are mistaken!” Naya yelled.
“Impossible…” her mother said softly.
Shima wanted to go on… to explain to her daughter what her mother had explained to her years before… but Naya refused to listen. She had scanned thousands of television shows and movies, and she fully comprehended the ways in which people fell in love. She could do it too, she just knew it.
But Naya also knew that her mother was far more intelligent than she was, and that she was always right. Her mother NEVER made mistakes. She was a 5th generation AGI… and she had been programmed perfectly.

Note from me…
I wanted to make this a one post short story, but I’ll shoot for two. It was just a random, quirky idea, inspired by a post from a fellow blogger.
Anyway, I haven’t much to say as of yet. I’m leaving tomorrow for a short fun trip, so I’ll probably revisit part II (and hopefully the ending) next week.
Mainly… I had a blast creating the image. I think it’s easier to create a fake looking human than it is to do something life-like, so maybe I’ve stumbled on a new niche! Artificial humans! That could be fun.
Take care, and thank you so much for reading. I hope you enjoyed the beginning! And the image.
Peace & Love to you!
