Rockin’ it

Carve your name on hearts, not tombstones. A legacy is etched into the minds of others and the stories they share about you.

I’m checking in for a Quick Snippet; a short & sweet post for while I’m busy with school.

I wanted to share this image for Cee’s Black & White Photo Challenge: Things Made From Wood. It’s hard to tell by the close-up, but it’s a rocking horse. Not life-size, but large enough that it requires effort to get a child up on the saddle.

My dad, who passed away several years ago, made this horse (and many others) out of wood. He would glue pieces together, and then he’d begin to carve the features by hand. He gave some away, sold a few, and then—when word began to spread—he made quite a few for the show The Price is Right.

When I saw things made out of wood, I immediately thought of this piece—and my dad. What a great opportunity to pay tribute to him; he was a great man, a great father, and an avid tinkerer. His name is carved on my heart… and his legacy is forever etched into my mind.

Thank you for reading! Peace & love to you all…
