Doorways

“Still round the corner there may wait

A new road or a secret gate;

And though I oft have passed them by,

A day will come at last when I

Shall take the hidden paths that run

West of the Moon, East of the Sun.”

—J.R.R. Tolkien

I’ve been on a new art kick lately, trying out new techniques in Photoshop and Illustrator. This piece was created using both programs. I did most of it in Photoshop and then moved it to Illustrator to add the frame—and eliminate something that looked like pixelation.

Believe it or not, this started out as one of my ‘zoo lights’ photographs. I did some distortions and blending and… voila!

My inspiration came while watching the series Luther. Oh.My.Gosh. First of all… I love that guy. That’s not the point though. What motivated me to go for this was the show’s title sequence. It’s an interesting contemporary- industrial- grunge style art. That’s what I would call it anyway.

I started to write a poem about doorways, fear, and playing it safe, but nothing sounded right. Then I saw the words of J.R.R. Tolkien (above) and I knew it was a perfect fit for this post.

That’s about all for now. Peace, Love and TGIF!

Word of the Day Challenge: Safe. I think I really skirted around this one, but making this piece was my way of stepping out of my safe zone!
