Happy New Year!

So, I’ve been in a funk lately. I won’t go into my thoughts on that because I’m focusing on the good and I plan to continue doing that for the remainder of this shiny, untarnished, virginlike year.
Ok, ok… so it’s only day ONE… but humor me here.
Anyway, I love New Years. Not because of the parties (although that might have been the case in my party days), but because of what it represents.
A clean slate.
Fresh starts.
New beginnings.
Second chances.
Transformation.
Hope.
These metaphors, and others like them, are pretty much what my world is all about. I mean, otherwise it’d just be plain old stuck.
So I’ll be honest about one thing and say that I’m (kind of) tired of illustrating, for now, which is one reason I’ve been away for so long.
That being said, I’ve found that the funk I’ve been getting into has been urging me to start over, and focus on journaling more (and when I say more I mean A LOT more… because I rarely do it at all anymore).
I just finished reading Between Two Kingdoms: A Memoir of a Life Interrupted, by Suleika Jaouad (so good!), and she said something like, “what would you write if you were dying?” Don’t quote me on that.
Anyway, it got me thinking. Right now I think my answer would be ANYTHING, because that’s certainly better than nothing. But, it also gave me a new perspective. I want to say about “not giving a shit,” but that’s a little harsh and makes it sound like I’m an a-hole.
What I mean is that I think that kind of perspective shift (like, I might not be here tomorrow…) helps remove some of the filters and the overthinking that hinders us (or me) from being open, telling it like it is, and getting to the heart of the matter.
Long story short (or is it too late for that?!), you’re going to see more words and less images from me. I’m going to journal every day (with a pen) and share my epiphanies with you, or pop in when I have something good to say… or just type a little chit chat when I get bored.
I started this woman before Christmas, and my plan was for her to be sitting on the word JOY, and the title of the post was going to be JOY RIDE. How cool is that?!
But, I waited. Then it was New Years. So, she’s atop of the New Year. I like it because it kind of reminds me of the Hollywood sign.
I also got rid of Photoshop again. I’m cutting my budget this year as well, because I want to make room for some new and cool things.
So, I might start doing some iPhoneography, and maybe some nature art (I’ve had this wild urge to SCAN some flowers and leaves and make art out of them)… so stay tuned on that.
Mostly, I just wanted to say that I’ve missed you, I’ve missed being here, and I hope that 2026 is your best year ever!
Every day is new.
Until next time,
Peace & Love to you!
