So I’m here to share the first post of my “Happy as a Hog in Mud” series.
I literally just named it that. Anyway, as I mentioned in my last share, I was growing tired of the bold, pouty lips that my femme fatale beauties usually boast, as well as many of the other women in my illustrations.
I know it’s a bit cartoony, but that’s part of the fun. I’ll be the first to admit that images like this might be more enjoyable to me (the doer) than they are to you (the viewer). I get to laugh a bit as I come up with ideas, and that’s just what I’ve been needing.
I was going to say that the fact that this couple is ‘older’ might play into the fact they’re so happy and carefree… because as we age we tend to not give a damn so much… but I knew that was a lie as soon as I typed it.
Older folks (myself included) seem to go one of two ways. Carefree, fun-loving, and happy in a childlike way (like my friends here), or just plain old “old, grouchy and cynical.” You know the type.
My problem these days is that I’ve been veering toward the latter and it’s been starting to show. And I’m not really sure why. I have no excuse… but I think it’s probably due to a lack of dates with men like this guy (haha!! kidding).
I think that’s why I chose the HAPPY route for a few posts – to get back to a little fun and laughs. I’m forcing happiness on myself by living vicariously through my cartoony characters.
So… this man is apparently late for a date, but at least he had the sense to bring an ‘apology’ bouquet. And, like the title says… at least he showed up!
I don’t think his date minds at all. She’s just happy she has a reason to wear her new duds (and push-up bra!)
As an added bonus, while I was poking around at my title idea, I found an interesting fun fact. Did you know that the phrase “Better late than never” has been around since 27 BC?! It was a Latin proverb “Potiusque sero quam nunquam,” which apparently translates to our English phrase.
Anyway, the point is obvious. It’s better to do something after it’s expected time frame or due date, than not do it at all. I’m sure a lot of women waiting for their dates would disagree (or vice versa), and a lot of employers won’t share this philosophy one bit, but in this here blog life… it most certainly applies.
I think that’s all for now. I’ve got an idea for my next “Happy” illustration, so I’ll be back soon enough!
Until then,
Peace & Love.
