Unfinished Business

I did a good job at letting my personality loose on this one. I came up with the name unfinished business because, as you can see, there are several projects ‘in the works’ at this serene beach cabin.

My chosen color palette is obvious… faded blues, turquoise, tan and aqua… but just when I thought it was finished, I decided to add the colorful towel. No seaside vacation should be without one of those, as far as I’m concerned.

After the towel, I added the little vase next to it, and I had to laugh because the room was starting to remind me of what my room (in real life) might look like when I come home from shopping at the thrift store. Something new here, something new there…

Creatively, and in life as well, that is literally what I struggle with. Am I in love with the soft, tranquil, minimalistic style – and the simplicity that goes with it – or do I prefer wild and vibrant hues, with a little chaos on the side?

Struggle is a strong word, but you get my drift. I think that’s why I can never establish a style, or an artistic niche. And it’s more than fine to switch it up… but maybe not in the same illustration?

I thought of that as I was doing the rug (or towel). I’m like “wow, that looks a little out of place.” But, then again, maybe that IS a style. Or maybe it could be. One strong object that breaks all the rules. Rule breakers are always interesting. I’ll have to think on that.

Anyway, enough about the illustration. I started it because I thought it would be interesting to do a few images of scenes that lend to solitude and reflection. Like this one.

It kind of begs the question, “where do you go when you want to be alone with your thoughts, or with God?” The beach? The mountains? Under a tree? Anywhere with your dog? The possibilities are endless.

I added a soft and simple woman as well, so you wouldn’t feel as though you were looking at an abandoned shack. Somebody has to be there, enjoying the view and the cool ocean breeze.

I’d say that I’m jealous, but I’m actually content where I am. For now.
