“It’s not what you look at that matters, it’s what you see.” -Henry David Thoreau
I seriously think I’m all talked out for a while. It’s a satisfying feeling (maybe for you as well?).
Anyway, I said that my next post would be “different,” so I decided that – for one thing – it would not involve a female. Don’t even get me started as to why I find it so fascinating to illustrate women (maybe because I am one?), but in order to experience change… I thought I’d try something unexpected.
I started by looking through architecture images, both photographs and illustrations. There’s a ton of inspiration, but so far I don’t have the patience for so many precise lines that need to end in just the right spot to create the perfect perspective. Things start looking like the Leaning Tower of Pisa.
Speed is my problem – I do everything FAST. I’ve got an illustration in mind for that particular thought… and I’ll talk a little more about it in the near future (maybe I’m not so talked out after all!).
Back to my illustration. It seemed best to go back to basics, so I chose a simple window. That was enjoyable to make. The view outside was becoming a problem, but I knew what I wanted… something that resembles one of my bucket list vacations.
I added a painterly effect to an existing royalty-free image and it was perfect. When I was thinking of what to call it, A Birds Eye View came to mind. That’s how the shadowy birds on a wire came to be. I actually love them there. They were totally unplanned, and definitely unexpected.
As for how it pertains to life, I think it’s about looking at things from new perspectives. In my own case, I think one thing I’ve realized is that too much introspection can be depressing.
I’m not saying that I am depressed (that rarely happens!), but I see how my thoughts could lead there if I didn’t get my head out of my… my… myself.
I think in my case (as an introvert and an excessive thinker), looking outwardly almost always provides a reprieve from the humdrums, loneliness, and even the depression that can be caused by too much solitude, and/or too much self-examination.
Of course, there’s a lot of crap “out there,” too, so you have to choose your focus wisely… like the view from my window here! I find it quite satisfying.
That’s about all for now. Thank you so much for viewing or reading… I hope you found something enjoyable here, and that your visit was worthwhile!
Until next time,
Peace & Love!
