Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it. —William Arthur Ward
I tried to fast forward last night… and then I closed the book altogether. It’s a good book, don’t get me wrong, it’s just not what I was looking for. The good news is that the first chapter led me in a totally different direction.
You know, the more you think about something, the more your brain forms neural pathways that make it easier to think about that same thing… again and again. And the more we use that pathway, the more accessible it gets.
Imagine a footpath on a hillside and how it actually formed there… by hikers and cyclists traveling across it… over and over again. Well, sometimes they bring in excavation equipment to help out… and a physiological equivalent to this might be microdosing psilocybin or LSD (just my own assumption!), but let’s not focus on the use of anything external.
After writing my affirmations last night, I felt the pull of positivity. Then, when I picked the book up again, it was still talking about the root of our problems… and the things that make us feel as though we aren’t enough… and I had a thought, “Alright already! I get it.”
I don’t need help figuring out what might be wrong with me (I do this quite well on my own, thank you very much). What I’m looking for is solutions! Now you see why my books collect dust.
Anyway, I realized that the pull I felt was a call to follow… to where I need to go… toward positivity and gratitude.
So, my Dance like Nobody’s Watching collection came to mind, and this time it’s not about leaping over hurdles, it’s 100% celebratory. It’s time to focus on the good.
I was given the gift of optimism, and it seems sacrilegious to purposely silence it while putting myself under a microscope to see what’s wrong with me… just so I can fix it!
What that does is bring even more issues and problems to mind… and here comes another pathway! Or I’m going down a road that I’ve already been on… making it easier to travel on next time!
I have another book that I’ll start tomorrow. It’s by Mark Batterson, and it’s called A Million Little Miracles. Let’s see if I can change the mood around here with some gratitude, positive thoughts, and a miracle or two.
In the meantime, my girls here are celebrating their liberation with some rejoicing and a little jubilation jig. Hmmmm… I wonder if they’re my inner cheerleaders??
That’s about all for now.
I’ll be back soon with some comments on the new book, chapter one.
Until then,
Peace & Love!
