I’m willing to bet that you’re not surprised by this one. And you may be thinking that I’m serially enthusiastic about my shadow images at the moment. Well, it’s true.
They’re fun to do… and I love how the subtle drop shadows add depth and dimension to an otherwise plain and simple illustration.
This is also a revamp. I’m not sure that I’ve shared it on the blog before, but originally her gloves were pink. I do enjoy color, but black and whites (or monochromes) make me just as happy – and sometimes even happier.
It’s kind of like eating peanut butter… it’s tempting to always add jelly, but sometimes you just want peanut butter. Especially if the bread is toasted.
You bite into that sandwich, fingers crossed that you won’t be disappointed… and voila…it tastes delicious. You are pleasantly surprised, and so glad that you left off the jam.
It’s kind of that way with color vs. no color. It’s hard to let it go, but it’s so good when you do.
Believe it or not, I was so happy with the lack of color on this one that I almost said I’d like to do a “Black and White Series.” And you know me and my serial enthusiasm. It’ll never last!
And now I’m going to take that statement back. For two reasons. First of all, the image made me laugh. It reminded me of my talks about my shadow selves. The inner self-critique and those other nasty characters.
Sometimes, after I post about those various selves, I have to stop and wonder for a moment – do the things that I say make it sound as if I really DO hear voices? Well, I can assure you that I do not. They’re just thoughts.
But that’s the thing. Capturing them and addressing them as if they are not my thoughts, but the voice of someone (or something) else, enables me to separate myself from those thoughts and see how irrational they are.
I thought I’d set the record straight, just to be safe.
Anyway, this young boxer made me laugh because I imagined that she was going toe to toe with one or more of her shadow selves. And thinking about that made me realize that I can’t shut down my own ideas either. I need to fight it out!
So, I’m not shutting down the idea of a Black and White series. Or any other series – past, present or future. Since one of my goals is to step up my game on the blog, I thought it might be interesting to go back in time and see just how many old series there are and which – if any – I’d like to revisit and continue.
I can sift through old posts, tidy up my categories, and continue working on not one, but a few years worth of collections. It’ll be fun! And who knows what I might find in there? Maybe my purpose!
That’s about all for now. Thanks for looking or reading… I hope you enjoyed!
PS: I’ve been working on the short story as well. It’s nearly done, but it’s so hard to write endings… even when you know how they end!
Until next time,
Peace & Love!
