“Capture a shadow, dance with the wind, stand in a rainbow, begin at the end.” -Mary Anne Radmacher

I see why I’m not good at lifelong commitments. My moods and interests change like the seasons. There’s nothing I like better than change. Anything else feels stagnant to me.
That’s probably why I needed a break from my story. And then, after spending time on a couple of different images, I ditched them both. When I was about to give up, I found these dancers in my Illustration folder and I’ve always been attached to the shadows.
I put them in a box, and I was going to call it “Shadow Boxing” as a bit of a play on words, but I remembered that I have an illustration of a female boxer that could use a revamp, so I may have to save that title for her.
Anyway, this was one of those creations that didn’t require much brain power and boy did I need that. I’m beginning to understand why there are times when I really enjoy my creations – and then times when they drive me bonkers. You just cannot force them.
There was a book I was reading on writing once, it may have been Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott but I can’t confirm that, that said when you develop a character, you cannot force them into an action or dialogue that they don’t want to go into. You have to let them take the lead.
It seems weird to allow a “make-believe” individual (that YOU literally made up) take control of your story, but I’ve actually experienced that.
Anyway, it’s kind of like that with images as well. If you’re trying to force it into something that it’s not, you end up with an unenjoyable task, or something that you’re just not proud of, or sometimes both. Sometimes I post them anyway – as you well know – but I’m trying to change.
I was already happy with this one and then, while looking for a word to describe my ‘need for change’ all the time, I stumbled on a new term that I’ve never heard. Serial Enthusiast. What a word! Even happier!
A serial enthusiast is someone who frequently or repeatedly becomes highly interested in and devoted to different activities or subjects, often without sticking to one for a long time. Wow. Is that me or what?!
It’s cool that I found something I can relate to like that, but I’m not so keen on the word “serial”… (why am I thinking of my late night documentaries??)
Anyway, that’s how it happens. Ditching the images that didn’t work opened me up for something new, which led me to a new and interesting term that seems to apply to me (which I’ll be looking deeper into at some point in time).
It’s like a surprise fun fact! Maybe? Anyway, I think I’ve run out of juice. My rambling thoughts are escaping…
I’ve got two projects ahead: Finish my short story and work on the boxer revamp. Yay! I’m excited… and I’ll be back soon.
Until then,
Peace & Love!!
Thank you for viewing or reading, I hope you enjoyed something here!
