Imaginings

“Everything you can imagine is real.” -Pablo Picasso

I’m going to make use of my separators from here on out. Everything above this paragraph is for viewers who want a cowgirl and no bull. Anything below is about my search for a purpose (and other animals), so read with caution (and an open mind)… only if you dare.

My words may be a little disorganized today. I’ve got about three different ideas whirling around my mind and I’m not sure which I’ll land on. Maybe one, maybe all. Who knows?

First of all, I read the Picasso quote last night and I just knew it was significant for my journey. I’ll probably need to circle back to that in a minute because I’m still not sure why, or how.

I started looking up various meanings of the word “purpose,” and I found some inspiration. Not oodles, but enough to get me started. The most basic dictionary says purpose is “the reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists.”

Psychologists look a little deeper, defining it as “an abiding intention to achieve a long-term goal that is both personally meaningful and makes a positive mark on the world.”

Dostoevsky said, “the mystery of human existence lies not in just staying alive, but in finding something to live for.” In other words, our existence is not just about survival, but about finding a meaning… a reason or goal that gives life significance and direction.

So… I need a goal that gives my life significance and direction. Yep. Thank you. I think I knew that already.

I don’t know about you, but it seems to me like stepping up my game on this blog could very well play a part in this so-called goal making.

I need to take it more seriously, and use it to make a positive mark on the world, not just for everyday boring chit chat, or for sharing images made late in the evening, for no apparent reason.

I don’t know. That sounds like a lot of work. See! My shadowy selves are chiming in already, saying “chill out girl! You know you’ll never follow through with any of this… you’re too damn lazy. Talk, talk, talk… that’s all you ever do.”

I’m revisiting the quote now. Under normal circumstances – I might say that the voices are winning again. But I will not. I’m beginning to understand why that quote made such an impression on me last night.

There’s a secret in it. All I need to do is believe that I can do it (or anything else for that matter), and then imagine what that looks like… because “everything I can imagine is real.” (and now we know where UFOs came from!)

Maybe finding a purpose (that target that I couldn’t make heads or tails of) will be simpler than I thought. Possibilities and opportunities have always been there, right in front of me…

I just couldn’t imagine them.

Wow. We made significant steps today! And not to brag or anything, but I’m pretty sure I may have killed two birds with one stone. I think my “failure to imagine” might play a role in the old Imposter Syndrome as well.

Another discussion, another day.

I spent a lot of time on my featured image today and it IS a revamp – a combination of two different illustration parts that weren’t really anything to speak of before.

I went with the flow… trying to create a scene that was not too realistic, but an imagining. It appears that the girl is materializing out of a make-believe field of pastel colors. It’s unusual, but that’s OK.

Anyway, that’s pretty much all for now… thank you so much for viewing or reading. I hope that you enjoyed something here!

Peace & Love.

“The purpose of life is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience.” -Eleanor Roosevelt

Interestingly enough in terms of Jungian synchronicity, I shared photos of three different cowgirls on my Facebook page today.

And two days ago I got an FB message from a friend in LA where we discuss issues of philosophy.

He shared a quote from Nikolai Gogol which was, “The human obsession with purpose is merely a distraction from the absurdity of existence.”

This is also my LA friend’s philosophical perspective as well.

Interestingly enough the night before I had written a movie review of the 1999 film Onegin (with Ralph Fiennes and Liv Tyler) in my old paper scribbler notebook (I think I had mentioned that to you in a comment yesterday or the day before that I had written a movie review).

Anyhow Onegin (Ralph Fiennes) is a young Russian nobleman whose own philosophy in life is basically summed up in that Gogol quote.

Tatiana (Liv Tyler) the beautiful young next door neighbour girl to his country estate is an idealist who seeks purpose in life and existence.

Anyhow she comes to love Onegin and expresses her love for him in a passionate literally tears and sweat written letter.

And Onegin being the cynic and skeptic that he is (based on his philosophy in life) rejects her love.

Long story short, Onegin spends the rest of the movie grievously regretting his decision.

The movie is based on a story by Alexander Pushkin.

Anyhow in my FB Message reply to my friend, I highlighted some points of my movie review to him and also messaged him the link to the movie Onegin (1999) on YouTube to him.

I haven’t heard back from him since.

Usually he messages me back right away.

I think my movie review summary (and if he actually watched the film) has got him thinking.

For the Pushkin story is a concrete example of what happens when you embrace the wrong philosophy (the Gogol quote) in life.

I think if I had tried to answer him back in more philosophical and theoretical terms, I wouldn’t have received the long message of silence back from him.

Oh wow. First of all yes, that philosophy stinks. It is actually absurd in itself if you ask me. I think, spiritually and scientifically, seeking purpose is one of the most important things – besides actually fulfilling it.

And I think I might check out that movie. I love Ralph Fiennes!! 🥰🥰 hahaha. But yes it sounds like it could be worth a watch.

Funny about the cowgirls! Ironic too because I’ve been thinking another thing I might ramble about is how we’re all connected.

Anyway, I’m sure your friend will respond eventually.

I hope you have a good night!!
