Within Reach

My ‘R’ word turned out to be a little tougher than I anticipated. The image not so much… but in figuring out what thoughts I might have on the word REACH.

There are a ton of cheesy quotes I thought about using, but reaching for the moon or the stars is so common and overused. It’s like saying ‘I love you’ so much that the meaning gets diminished (which is something I do, by the way).

I think what’s been on my mind with the word Reach is the fact that I feel like I’ve stopped reaching. I contract, rather than expand.

I’m not challenging myself whatsoever… in fact, I think I’m getting so cozy in my comfort zone that the zone is tired of seeing me.

It’s like a frumpy unmade bed… begging me to get up so that housekeeping can come in and put on some fresh sheets (I wish!).

I looked at definitions of the word reach to see if I might be inspired. My favorite is: to extend or stretch.

I have a book somewhere called something like One Small Step. Basically, it’s about making changes ever so gradually.

I think that feeling stuck in this comfort zone has a lot to do with thinking that the things I’d like to do – that are outside of the zone – are BIG. So BIG that I give up – before I even start.

So… in looking at the word Reach as it applies to extending or stretching, it’s like all I really need to do is to stretch just a little, or extend myself just a teeny tiny bit. A little tip toe.

Like these ladies in my image. They’re not hip hopping on the dance floor, or break dancing in the streets… and they’re not in some foo foo ballet. They’re just stretching and extending themselves… ever so slightly.

That being said, I think the word Reach gives me hope.
