It’s 5:00 Somewhere…

A Boomer Tale.

Gladys and the Gift of Gab

Oh my God, this is awful.

Whoever thought that dressing up celery juice to look like a cocktail would make it taste any better was seriously misled. No matter what you drink it out of, it’s gross.

Suzanna makes me go on this health kick with her four times a year, and I’m not sure I can take it anymore. What I’d really like is a pitcher of margaritas.

Hey, it’s 5:00 somewhere!

Sadly, I’d only end up with one of those horrible migraines. Man, getting old sucks.

I know she thinks that 60 is the new 40, but some days I just want to act my age. I’m retired now, and I want to be drowning myself in delicious unhealthy food, stiff drinks, and a lounge chair for two… all while streaming reruns of ‘I Love Lucy’ on the big screen.

What’s really bothering me is that Suzanna has her heart set on Hector, this young man in our yoga class. I get it, I really do. I mean… va-va-voom!

But, it’s not realistic. He’s the same age as my son for crying out loud. Maybe younger! Gregory is dying to take her out, but she’s being stubborn. And picky. She thinks he’s too old.

Well… YES dear,” I feel like saying, “aren’t we all?”

Okay, so he does have a lot of ear hair. That’s easily fixed! Philip doesn’t just do brows, you know. Besides, Gregory is maybe two years older than us… big flipping deal.

Suzanna’s just got some weird denial thing going on, and some days I want to shake her out of it… before another decade goes by and she’s left single, sad, and alone.

I’m going to see her later, and I think it’s time to sit her down for a little heart to heart chat.

What are best friends for?

TO BE CONTINUED

I’m looking forward to seeing how this friendship fares through the ‘talk’ that Gladys has planned. Luckily, I have some sway in the matter. 🙂

Thank you for reading… I hope you’re enjoying the story so far!
