My riches consist not in the extent of my possessions, but in the fewness of my wants. -Joseph Brotherton

A New Series is in the Works!
I came up with the idea for this post several days ago, as well as the title, but this afternoon I had a hard time living up to it – as far as the image is concerned.
It started with a simplistic vision… but I had to reel myself in when it was time to experiment with effects. After 8 or 9 versions, I settled on this one.
The image actually started with an idea I had, for some future projects I’d like to do: Scanning flowers and plants on my home scanner and then editing them in Photoshop. That will come! But for now I settled on the illustration.
Anyway, the point behind “less is more” is that I tried to watch the show The Minimalists again (tried before) but – once again – I didn’t get very far. I’ll get back to it, I just wasn’t in the mood at the time.
Still, I have every intention of scaling back on my possessions in the months and year(s) to come, so I figured… why not share my journey on the blog? There’s a lot I have to say about scaling back, downsizing, recycling, upcycling, repurposing and so on… so I thought I’d turn it into my latest blog series.
I spent years not going overboard on ‘things,’ but lately it’s like my pointer finger is attached to the BUY button on my phone. Especially since I started the early Christmas shopping (which is almost done, I might add).
The problem with my gift shopping has to do with the ratio. “One for them, two for me. One for them, two for me.” I swear. I must have 10 pairs of slippers! And none are as comfy as I’d like!
My sister and I talked about it and we agreed. Cheap stuff has got to go. It’s so much wiser to spend a little more on quality goods, things that are made well – that will last a long time. Buying cheap items that end up as disposable junk is not only a waste of money, it’s SO, SO bad for mother earth.
So, as you can tell… I’ve got my work cut out for me, and I’m hoping that my Less is More series turns out to be something you look forward to each week (or month. or day. haha).
It’s still in the rough draft stages, obviously, but this project is something I’m super serious about… and I’m excited. I can’t wait to get started!
Until next time,
Peace & Love!
