The Meltdown

A Short (Somewhat Graphic) Novel

Oliver’s head sunk low. Really low. He held onto it tight as if the only thing keeping it intact was his hands.

He’d completely forgotten that a few clients were still lingering in the gym, and they heard him cry out.

“I’m such a failure!”

The room fell silent. Quietly… one by one… they picked up their belongings, their towels and colorful gear bags, and they tip-toed their chiseled bodies out the back.

Oliver was a giant in their eyes. He was forceful, demanding and even unforgiving at times, but they loved him for it. What good would a personal trainer be if he were too easy, too sympathetic, too soft?

He had helped scores of people transform… their bodies, their mindsets, their health, and their lives.

Nearly an hour went by before he lifted his head. At first he just opened his eyes. He scanned his surroundings, as if he’d never seen the place before.

“Where am I?” He thought.

The mental stress he was under had caused an adrenaline rush, leaving him lightheaded and confused.

A shadowy figure shifted across the room, near the check in station, and Oliver moved his head in its direction.

It was a woman. Not a client, but perhaps no stranger either. By appearance, he’d never seen her before. But deep inside, somewhere within his heart and abdomen, Oliver felt that he’d known her forever.

“Hello Oliver…” she said.

TO BE CONTINUED

Hello! Just dropping in with the start of a new story. I’m afraid that poor Yolanda will have to stay lost for a while… the storyteller got bored with her.

I decided it might be more productive to write a story in which I at least ‘think’ I know the plot, otherwise it just gets silly. I love to have fun, mind you, but I’m a drama lover… so I can only take comedies in small doses.

I have a more serious plot in mind for this one, but I’m going to do my best to make it funny along the way.

That’s about all for now! Thanks for reading/looking… I hope you enjoyed everything so far!

    “Hello Oliver,”

And with that the plot thickens like gruel being served in a 19th Century English orphanage workhouse kitchen.
