“Over my dead body!!”
That was the very last thing that I heard Yvonne say. And the last time that I saw her before… well… before I didn’t.
She was coming out of Leo’s Diner at the time. Her husband Jimmy kind of runs the place there. Those two were always fighting, so it didn’t surprise me much when I heard her holler at him like that.
Some people say she took off… ran out on Jimmy… you know? But the ladies in the Auxiliary Club, myself included, don’t believe that for a minute. She loved this town too much. She loved us ladies, too.
Besides, Yvonne couldn’t keep a secret to save her life. She loved talking about herself, and there’s no doubt in my mind that she would have said something to us girls if she was leaving.
Other folks in town suspect that Jimmy did her in. There’s just no way. Jimmy lived next door to me when we were growing up, and he was always looking out for me… and everyone else in town for that matter. He’s a good man.
Jimmy couldn’t hurt a fly. And he loved Yvonne more than life itself. He knew how much she loved to bicker, and he was just fine with that.
It takes a certain kind of man to let a woman nag him like that, you know? Most of the time he’d just smile, and tell her how cute she looked.
But, I have to say that I never saw Yvonne quite as mad as she was that day.
And, come to think of it, Jimmy wasn’t smiling, either.

So… I’m really excited about my latest idea… now let’s just see if I can bring it to completion.
I was watching a movie the other night and the main character wrote (or drew?) graphic novels. I was kind of excited when I thought about that, because – as you already know – I enjoy illustrations with my stories.
That being said, I’m doing a little in-betweener. Part graphic novel, part short story. I think I’m still a little too literal to do the entire thing in pictures. I’d go nuts.
Anyway, I’m keeping the chapter’s ultra short. That makes it an easy read, and it gives me time to complete the graphics.
When it’s finished, the end result will be called The Ladies Auxiliary, and here – today – is the very first page.
What I’d really like to do is a cool layout with smaller images alongside some of the print, but between frustration with WordPress “blocks,” and the way web layouts change with every single device, I have to keep it simple for now.
