Nothing But Grace

Before I say anything about the “G” word, I want to share where my thoughts were headed last night. It occurred to me that I need to keep these alphabet posts simple.

The idea was to use the letters as a prompt, to do some quick, fun, and easy gratitude exercises. The next thing you know, I’m writing these wordy posts about contentment and dreams. Not that that’s a bad thing, I just know it’ll be hard to stay on that path once the holiday is over.

Anyway, I jot down words that come to mind when I think about particular letters. Some of the letters are still blank, but “G” has been seeing some serious action.

  • Gratitude was a no-brainer, but it seems redundant to say “I’m grateful for gratitude.”
  • Gummy Bears and Graffiti Art popped into my head; I can enjoy both of these for hours!
  • Growth made its way to the list this afternoon and, of course
  • God has been in my thoughts throughout the entire process.

I wasn’t sure what to do with all of these options, so I did what I normally do when I’m not sure what to do. I stopped thinking about it. And it came to me. With a house full of family, too much talking going on, a whirlwind of chaos (two great nieces with their toys), and a television roaring in the background—there it was; staring me in the face.

Grace.

Can I even begin to talk about grace, and still keep my post short and sweet? Well, I can try. I found a few words by John Stott, and they are perfect words…

Grace is love that cares and stoops and rescues.

The words took me back to my post about contentment, and my zig zagging highway. Remember that soft cushion my bumper car taps when I get too far off track; the one that sends my vehicle back into the safety zone?

That is grace. Amazing, huh?

I hope you enjoyed the letter G!

God’s grace sustains us… so pass it on.

We live in a world of earning, deserving, and merit, and these result in judgment. That is why everyone wants and needs grace. Judgment kills. Only grace makes alive.

      Well… it is my jam
From 2014 but it might be a too worship song for me for this decade (hard to believe that this decade is ending – but let’s keep
      Rolling on)

Oh and I thought of you when I listed gummy bears. I thought uh oh… These are probably made out of that bad oil she was talking about.

Hahah – laughing at the gummies – and I have no idea as to what they are made of but I would assume that not all brands are the same – and sometimes “gelatin” has perks
-also thought of you with some Jami Smith music this week – do you like her music?

Never heard of her. Boy I don’t get out much! Haha! Will check her out. One of my Loves right now is Needtobreath. Saw them in concert. They are my band of the decade you might say. Have you heard of them?

oh I like them too – only know a song or two –
but will check them our more because band of the decade is a big deal!
I merely have a song of the decade and need to think of the band – hahha

and Jami smith was my overplayed artist of 2005.
I gave away CDs of her music to people and they were like “eh – pretty good” – or “not bad” – and Janet – I realized something after I was so moved by her music –
I realized how our inner man (or woman) is ministered at different times by different music. And for whatever reason, my soul was fed by the two CD’s of music – that overplayed in the car and at home. haha
Also, all these years later – I see what a turning point year 2005 was for me – and I had a lot of moments with God and feeding my spirit with Jami Smith’s badass worship songs – lol

Now I play her on spotify and fun to stream music –
      – oh and when we first moved to Richmond in 2003 – she had a concert here but I did not even think to go because I did not know her music yet

I always ask myself, “How can I put myself in the way of Grace?” She can’t be summoned on command or by ritual or even by prayer. She just arises in or out of bumper cars.
